About Lydgate Beach Park

Lydgate Beach Park is on Kauaʻi's East Side in Wailua, beside the mouth of the Wailua River. It is known for Morgan's Ponds: two ocean ponds enclosed by a boulder breakwater built just offshore in 1964, divided into a shallow inner pond and a deeper outer one.

Families come for the ponds, the lifeguard tower, and Kamalani Playground, a big wooden play structure built by community volunteers in 1994. The park also has restrooms, showers, pavilions, a County campground and the start of Ke Ala Hele Makalae, the coastal path that runs north along the East Side.

Lydgate Beach Park is a beach on Kauaʻi’s East Side, on the east-facing coast. A County lifeguard tower covers it. Its surf follows the National Weather Service forecast for East-facing shores, and its tides follow NOAA’s Hanamaulu Bay station. Facilities: restrooms.
