Parking and access
Parking
A small public lot of about nine tight spaces just before the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay gatehouse in Princeville. Free, and it fills very early. Don’t park at the nearby condos; cars may be towed.
Getting to the sand
The public route is the County’s Kaumūmene Trail (the Hideaways Trail), reopened in late September 2026 after repairs. It’s steep and slippery in places, about 15 minutes down. The concrete stairs at Pali Ke Kua are private, for condo guests only.
Lifeguard
Not guarded. The County of Kauaʻi Ocean Safety Bureau doesn't list a lifeguard tower here.
Where we stay. We stay at Honu Hale Sunrise in Princeville. It’s ours.
See Honu Hale SunriseAbout Hideaways Beach
Hideaways Beach, also called Pali Ke Kua, is a small pocket of sand below the cliffs of Princeville on Kauaʻi's North Shore. It lies beneath the Pali Ke Kua and Puʻu Poa condos, next to the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, formerly the St. Regis Princeville.
Its draw is the setting: a secluded cove under green cliffs, with clear water over a reef that snorkelers visit mostly in summer, when the North Shore surf is small. The trail down from Ka Haku Road is steep, with ropes and railings in places, and the public lot at the top holds about ten cars, which keeps the beach uncrowded.
Hideaways Beach (also called Pali Ke Kua) is a beach on Kauaʻi’s North Shore, on the north-facing coast. No County lifeguard tower covers it. Its surf follows the National Weather Service forecast for North-facing shores, and its tides follow NOAA’s Hanalei Bay station.
